Description
Château Moulin de Tricot, Haut-Médoc
Bruno and Pascale Rey have been farming a few parcels of vines that lie just outside their home in Margaux for several decades. They treat this wine with the same devotion to traditional winemaking practices as the Margaux, emphasizing balance, elegance and structure instead of massive amounts of fruit and alcohol. The vines are on average a bit younger and in the cellar the aging is just 12 months in neutral barrels, all of which adds up to a wine that provides immediate pleasure, even in its youth.
That is not to say this is not complex, age worthy wine. Unlike almost all of their neighbors the Reys did not replant these vineyards to be dominated by Merlot. Cabernet Sauvignon makes up 75% of the blend, just like the Margaux. This is a perfect wine to have on hand for early drinking, but it would be ideal to use a few bottles in the cellar. Especially since 2019 is an outstanding vintage, and sadly also the last for Moulin de Tricot.
