Description
Domaine Arlaud, Grand Cru “Bonnes Mares”
There’s nothing much to say here. It’s Bonnes-Mares, the Grand Cru home to some of the world’s most expensive Pinot Noir. This is where the legendary domaines all seem to converge and idolize their raw material, and I’ll prove it. Below is an incomplete list of producers that charge more (multiples more in some instances) than Arlaud’s jaw-dropping $525 cuvée:
Roumier, Mugnier, Dujac, Fourrier, Mortet, Vogüé, Groffier, Lucien Le Moine, Drouhin.
Again, that’s an incomplete list, and once you consider that Arlaud only owns a half-acre of old vines that are biodynamically farmed with some of the most exacting detail in the entire region, you start to realize how grand of a value this becomes. Arlaud vinifies with ambient yeats and partial stem inclusion, and matures this wine in top-quality French barrels—new oak is used judiciously. Bottling occurs without fining or filtering.
Three decades of aging is not out of the question for this staggering Grand Cru titan. No more than two bottles per person.
