Fabio Gea, “Back Grin” Vino Rosso
Although Fabio Gea has never confirmed, “Back Grin” is supposedly made from Grignolino, evidenced by the grin (which sounds similar to the first syllable of Grignolino) inside of his sickle-and-rake logo on the label. These organic grapes are purchased from a close friend and were completely de-stemmed at his cellar before undergoing a two-week maceration. Both fermentation and maturation occurred in homemade porcelain vessels before a 100% unmanipulated bottling. Less than 200 cases were produced. This is always an exuberant joy to drink: Once the hint of reduction blows off, juicy red cherry, huckleberry, and spicy red licorice come to the fore followed by bay leaf, white pepper, and sweet strawberry. Enjoy slowly.
NOTE: This is a glass closure so avoid using a corkscrew! Instead of cutting the wax, simply grab the string while securing the bottle with your other hand and firmly pull upward to break the seal.
