2022 Champagne Three-Pack
Here it is: Our annual, specially curated Champagne pack that’s guaranteed to make you the life of any December party! As you know, we showcase a steady stream of top-flight Champagne all year round so it’s reasonable to assume a three-pack would triple our workload. But even that is a major understatement. This specialty pack had to do more than bring the heat—we needed it to shatter expectations while leaving bank accounts full.
First, we ensured each bottle had a Premier and/or Grand Cru level of quality. We then mixed in a couple of in-demand grower estates like Ruelle-Pertois and Petit & Bajan, as well as one of the region’s most historic and revered Champagne Houses, Philipponnat. Finally, we provided you with various styles so each bottle would deliver a powerfully singular and delicious expression of this storied region. And we’re doing all that for $195. So, without further ado, here are three standout Champagne selections for your 2022 holiday needs. Cheers!
NOTE: We’ve created a limited number of packs so once they’re gone, they’re gone for good! If needed, our holiday shipping calendar can be referenced here.
2015 Champagne Ruelle-Pertois, Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs
For the past decade, Ruelle-Pertois’ stunning, luxury-feel vintage cuvées have made a convincing case as one of the best-kept secrets in Grand Cru Champagne. And yet, these wines are still only brought over in ripples, not waves, so you should be thrilled about this rare inclusion! Ruelle-Pertois only owns about six hectares of vine, four of which are scattered throughout the Côte des Blancs Grand Crus of Cramant, Chouilly, and Oiry. It is from these legendary villages that today’s 2015 “Millésime” Champagne was sourced. Following lutte raisonnée principles, all Grand Cru Chardonnay fruit was hand-harvested and shuttled to their cellar in Moussy. After a gentle pressing and fermentation, the wine was transferred into bottle where it matured sur lie for 72 months before disgorgement this year. It is precise, deeply layered, and brimming with opulence.
Champagne Philipponnat, Royale Réserve Brut
Next up is, quite surprisingly, a first-time feature for us despite Philipponnat being one of the most revered Champagne Houses in the history books. Incredibly, they’ve been cultivating the vine for 500 years and their wines once sated the court of Louis XIV. In more recent history, Philipponnat’s Champagnes have become among the most consistent critical darlings, from their epic “Clos des Goisses” prestige cuvée to today’s “Royale Réserve.” This bottling, hailing from a prized network of Premier and Grand Cru parcels, is driven by Pinot Noir, followed by 30% Chardonnay and a splash of Meunier. Largely a blend of the 2018 vintage, it was blended with older barrel-aged reserves before three years of bottle aging and a generous dosage. It’s creamy, rich, and begging for a luxurious food companion.
Champagne Petit & Bajan, Obsidienne Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs
Now here’s the exciting sleeper of the trio, for many reasons. Sure, Petit & Bajan is one of Champagne’s newer and smaller grower estates, but the label only paints a partial picture of what’s inside. “Obsidienne” is 100% Pinot Noir from the Grand Cru villages of Verzenay and Verzy, and the grapes are hand-picked and hand-cranked in a large wooden press. But what comes next is the most impressive feat of all: The base vintage here is 2014 and it was only just disgorged (with a light three-gram dosage), which puts this champagne at seven years of lees aging. And let me tell you: Every layer of that powerful Grand Cru Pinot Noir can be felt from top to bottom. This is a vinous, substantial, ultra-refined Blanc de Noirs!
Cheers & Happy Holidays!
