Lewis Cellars, “Alec’s Blend” Proprietary Red
In a region flooded with Cabernet Sauvignon, Randy Lewis decided to take a chance on Syrah and Syah based blends with their first vintage of the Alec\’s Blend in 1997. After 24 years, this is still a fan favorite. While the 2019 has just hit the market, we\’re liking how the 2018 is shaping up in the bottle. This Syrah-dominated blend relies on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc for added structure. it\’s delicious after a 30 to 45-minute decant boasting a bounty of blackberry fruit, scorched earth, baker\’s chocolate, and charred meat. While fruit-forward on the entry, this effort has remarkable restraint, purity, well-balanced tannins, and just the right amount of French and American oak to allow the fruit to shine through. A few bottles won\’t be enough of this gem. The Lewis Team has this blend down!
