Marqués de Murrieta, Ygay “Etiqueta Blanca” Rioja
“Etiqueta Blanca” is a fantasy name for Ygay’s Crianza-designated Rioja, and 1982 marks the final vintage it was produced. What a vintage it was: It was an exceptional year throughout the region, and this bottling is considered one of the finest mature Crianzas ever made by Marqués de Murrieta. It is a blend led by Tempranillo followed by Garnacha and a splash of Mazuelo. The fruit fermented separately in vats before blending and being transferred into used American oak barrels of 225 liters. Following two years of maturation, the wine was bottled and allowed to rest for another 12 months before its first commercial release. This parcel, however, kept slumbering much longer before it was purchased by a private cellar. It spent the entirety of its life stored to perfection, finally leaving Spain for the first time at the end of 2022. It arrived in our warehouse during the first week of January 2023. Sorry, but we only have 19 bottles to share.
